When choosing a stick, the very first consideration is to be sure that it is suitable for the use to which you will be putting it.
For example, a slim, elegant, decorative stick may be fine to help a person of small stature maintain balance, but it will break if a large, heavy person attempts to put her/his whole weight on it.
A hiking staff will be perfect for hill climbing or mountaineering, but it would look awkward and unsuitable for a stroll on urban walks.
Highly crafted sticks featuring added handles/crooks such as deer antler, cow or buffalo horn, etc., may be entirely appropriate for special occasions but may suffer from 'overkill' on a regular routine walk.
Then, there are walking sticks which are made specifically as walking aids. They are factory made from many different materials and are available in all sorts of shapes. They fill a definite need but may not be the perfect choice for someone who likes to take a walking stick as an aid and companion for every day informal use.
As for my sticks (Derryhick Sticks), if you like a walking stick that is needed for regular walks, that has a handle designed by nature, that has its own little imperfections and unique characteristics, that will become your companion on walks, then I strongly recommend them.
If you are considering the purchase of one of my sticks but are unsure of its suitability for your needs, I will be happy to offer advice.
