Rhododendron shanks make very attractive sticks… tough, light, colourful... never straight… but full of character! Rhododendron is not often used to make walking sticks largely because it can be difficult to find suitable shanks. Though the cross section is often oval rather than round this in no way diminishes either the attractiveness or the usefulness of the sticks. Advantages of Rhododendron for stickmaking:

1. Very light so even large sticks are never heavy
2. Attractive under-bark which takes a lovely finish
3. Full of individuality and character

I source all my sticks locally in an environmentally friendly way. I season the sticks for a minimum of two years and finish each one by hand. The dimensions shown under the Additional Information tab are in inches and ounces. The width is the measurement at the tip (bottom) of the stick.
